Frank Curreri, WEC - Punching Yves Jabouin in the face has been on Mark Hominick's mind for an exceptionally long time. And vice-versa.
"This fight was supposed to be booked for about eight years now," Jabouin said.
"It was a fight that was always talked about," Hominick said, "but never became reality."

Canadian fans will get the chance to see some of the fighters involved in this Sunday’s WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus event on Thursday, June 17 at one of the biggest malls in North America.

The event is headlined by a bout between former WEC lightweight champ Jamie Varner (16-3) and undefeated Kamal Shalorus (6-0-1). Canadian featherweights Mark Hominick (17-8) and Yves Jabouin (14-5) square off in the co-main event.

On Thursday, June 17, World Extreme Cagefighting® invades the West Edmonton Mall for a public workout open to both fans and members of the press. The open workout will take place at the Newcap Stage at the West Edmonton Mall from 1pm – 3pm MST and will showcase the pre-fight training regimens of some of the world’s best mixed martial artists. The Newcap Stage is located on the first floor, Phase IV, in front of HMV.

The upcoming World Extreme Cagefighting promotions first venture into Canada, WEC 49, is now full with all 11 bouts official for the event.

WEC 49 will take place on June 20 at Rexall PLace in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and will see the main card broadcast on the Versus network. The show is headlined by a lightweight bout between former champ Jamie Varner and Kamal Shalorus.

The last two bouts made official by WEC officials were the main-card addition of bantamweights Eddie Wineland (16-6-1) vs. Will Campuzano (9-1) and a preliminary-card fight of 135-pounders Rafael Rebello (6-3 vs. Chris Cariaso (9-1).

WEC 49 will mark the promotions first trip to Canada when they travel to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to put their next show on at Rexall Place on June 20th. Headlining the Canadian show will be a lightweight tilt between former champ Jamie Varner (16-3) and top prospect Kamal Shalorus (6-0-1).

Four other bouts are set for the main card include featherweights Josh Grispi (13-1) vs. L.C. Davis (16-2), lightweights Chris Horodecki (13-2 MMA, 0-1 WEC) vs. Ed Ratcliff (7-2 MMA, 3-2 WEC), featherweights Mark Hominick (17-8 MMA, 1-2 WEC) vs. Yves Jabouin (14-5 MMA, 0-1 WEC), and Eddie Wineland (16-6-1 MMA, 3-2 WEC) vs. Charlie Valencia (12-5 MMA, 5-3 WEC).

WEC 49 continues to look better and better as 5 Oz has recently been able to learn of yet another intriguing addition to the upcoming event.

Sources close to Will Kerr (8-2 MMA, 0-1 WEC) have revealed to FiveOuncesofPain.com that the hard hitting lightweight will meet Karen Darabedyan (9-2 MMA, 1-1 WEC) at WEC 49 in Edmonton on June 20.

Kerr looks to rebound after suffering TKO loss to Kamal Shalorus (6-0-1 MMA, 3-0 WEC) this past November at WEC 44. The loss snapped Kerr’s five fight win streak and was the first time he had been stopped since 2006.

Darabedyan is also looking to bounce back from a recent defeat. Darabedyan suffered his first loss in the WEC via arm bar at the hands of Bart Palaszewski (34-13 MMA, 4-2 WEC) at WEC 47.

Both fighters bring a heavy set of hands and excellent boxing skills to the cage. A victory for either will put them back track in the WEC lightweight division.
