Fans are invited to Wednesday's open workout for this weekend's
"Strikeforce: Nashville" event.

The fan and media event takes place at Nashville Mixed Martial Arts (490
Allied Drive, Suite C) and begins at 1 p.m. CT (local time).

Taking part in the session are headliner Gilbert Melendez and
preliminary-card fighters Jason "Mayhem" Miller, Ovince Saint Preux,
Josh Shockman and Dustin West.

Wednesday's broadcast of UFC Fight Night 21 on Spike TV earned an
avergae audience of 1.6 million viewers, station executives today
announced.

The March 31 broadcast peaked with 2 million viewers, who tuned in for
Kenny Florian's third-round submission win over Japanese import Takanori
Gomi.

The event took place at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C.



WPC Russia Bans Competition in Other Feds

On Wednesday, WPC Russia President Yuri Ustinov issued a new rule which bars its lifters from competing in any of the many new federations which are forming around the country. Any lifter who competes in a federation other than the WPC/AWPC, GPC, WPF or WUAP will not be eligible to compete on team Russia or represent Russia at international competitions in those federations.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Kenny Florian, Roy Nelson, Ross Pearson and Denis Siver each earned $30,000 bonuses for their performances at Wednesday's UFC Fight Night 21 event.

Florian earned the "Submission of the Night" award, Nelson picked up the "Knockout of the Night" bonus, and Ross Pearson and Dennis Siver each earned "Fight of the Night honors.

MMAjunkie.com learned of the bonus winners and amounts in the night's post-fight press conference.

On Wednesday night, Ben Saunders and Jon Fitch were just two guys on the same fight card.

Saunders went to work out in the rooms designated for UFC 111 fighters and happened upon Fitch. Thinking nothing of it, the two joked around in between exercises and wished each other well at the end of the session.

Thursday morning, Saunders got a text from one of his friends. He then jumped onto MMAjunkie.com and realized a fight with Jon Fitch, who lost opponent Thiago Alves, could be a possibility.

Purists have cried hypocrisy over news of boxing champion James Toney's new Ultimate Fighting Championship contract.

The 41-year-old boxing veteran got the usual line on Wednesday for well-known outsiders who make their way to MMA: he's an opportunist just looking to make a buck, he couldn't make it in his sport and can't go anywhere else, and he'll be obliterated by the "real fighters."

But several UFC heavyweights MMAjunkie.com spoke to Wednesday - including Paul Buentello, Chris Tuchscherer, Pat Barry and Brendan Schaub - didn't condemn Toney for the move. Most, in fact, had more positive things to say than negative.
