111 Prelims: Six Pounds No Problem for Diaz

March 28th, 2010 | Author: UFC Press Releases

Thomas Gerbasi, UFC - When Rory Markham tipped the scales at 177 pounds Friday for his WELTERWEIGHT bout with Nate Diaz, who was making his debut in the division, it was assumed that the former lightweight was going to have some difficulty dealing with the strength and power of the veteran knockout artist. But it was Diaz laying the hurt down on Markham Saturday at the Prudential Center as he scored a first round TKO win.

NEWARK, N.J. - The easiest measure of UFC welterweight champion Georges
St-Pierre's greatness may be the look that was on his face at the

the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. - including a 50-43 score on one
card - St-Pierre knew he hadn't yet turned in his best.

NEWARK, N.J. - Scrappy UFC brawler Nate Diaz has always been an
"anybody, anywhere, anytime" kind of fighter.

After his performance on the preliminary card of Saturday night's UFC
111 event at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., Diaz can now add
"any weight class" to his take-on-all-comers attitude.

Diaz made the leap from the 155-pound division all the way up to
middleweight, albeit on a slight technicality, and the Stockton, Calif.,
native delivered one of the most impressive performances of his career.

Dan Hardy looks for perhaps the second-biggest upset in UFC history at UFC 111. Opponent and UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre looks to avoid the dubious honor of being on the wrong end of such another upset.

Frank Mir, meanwhile, says he is no longer worried about exacting revenge on UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. Instead, all of his focus is on opponent Shane Carwin, who looks to add an interim heavyweight title to his perfect MMA record.

In MMAjunkie.com's official event preview, Steven Marrocco talks to the four competitors and breaks down the UFC 111 co-headliners, which take place Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
