A welterweight rematch is a go for UFC 111 between UFC fighters Jon Fitch (21-3) and Thiago Alves (16-6) on the PPV card of UFC 111. Both men had originally been scheduled to meet at UFC 107 in December but a knee injury to Alves forced the fight from the card.
UFC 111 is set to take place March 27 in Newark, NJ. from the Prudential Center and will feature two title bouts on the card. Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will defend his title against British striker Dan Hardy, while heavyweights Frank Mir, a former UFC champ, and top challenger Shane Carwin battle it out for an interim-title.
The first time Fitch and Alves stepped into the octagon against one another at UFC: Ultimate Fight Night 5 in June 2008, Fitch defeated Alves via second-round technical knockout. Since then both men have gone on to face champion GSP for the welterweight title, and both men have fallen.
Currently Fitch has won his last three bouts since losing to GSP, defeating Akihiro Gono, Paulo Thiago, and Mike Pierce. The victory over Pierce marked his last appearance at UFC 107, where he earned a unanimous decision in their fight.
Alves is looking to rebound from his UFC 100 loss to GSP, a fight in which the champ dominated in all five rounds. Before that fight the “Pitbull” had won seven straight matches in the UFC. The last loss suffered by Alves was to Fitch.
