UFC 116 weigh-ins, workouts, presser, autograph session open to fans (Updated)

Official fighter weigh-ins for this weekend's UFC 116 event take place Friday, July 2, at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT local time) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The weigh-ins are one of four events open to fans this week.

Additionally, Wednesday's open workouts, Thursday's pre-event press conference, and Friday's UFC autograph session are also open to the general public.

A featherweight bout between Bryan Caraway and
Fredson Paixao - initially slated for WEC 47 in March
but scratched when Caraway suffered a knee injury - is now official for
August's WEC 50 event.

WEC officials today announced the contest, which is expected to take
place on the evening's preliminary card.

Featuring a bantamweight title fight between current champ Dominick Cruz
and challenger Joseph Benavidez, "WEC 50: Cruz vs. Benavidez" takes
place Aug. 18 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort.

A highly anticipated welterweight rematch between top contenders Thiago
Alves and Jon Fitch is finally
official.

UFC officials announced that the long-rumored and previously scheduled
bout will enjoy co-main event status at August's UFC 117.

Featuring a middleweight title fight between current champion Anderson
Silva and top contender Chael Sonnen, UFC 117 takes place Aug. 7 in
Oakland, Calif. The main card airs live on pay-per-view.

As expected Tyson Griffin has replaced injured Joe Stevenson and fights
fellow lightweight Takanori Gomi next month at UFC on Versus 2.

MMAjunkie.com passed along news of the change earlier today, and UFC
executive since have made it official.

The fight remains on the Versus-televised main card of the event, which
takes place Aug. 1 at the San Diego Sports Arena in California with a
Jon Jones vs. Vladimir Matyushenko light-heavyweight main event.

UFC 116's co-main event is now set.

Ultimate Fighting Championship officials today confirmed that middleweight Yoshihiro Akiyama will meet Chris Leben at the July 3 event, which takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

MMAjunkie.com first reported the change earlier this week when news broke that Akiyama's original opponent, Wanderlei Silva, was forced off the summer card due to injury.

During last night’s “WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus” post-fight press conference, WEC official Reed Harris announced the “Fight Night” bonuses for the event.

Walking away with a $10,000 bonus were Mark Hominick and Yves Jabouin for “Fight of the Night,” while Eddie Wineland earned the “Knockout of the Night,” and “Submission of the Night” was warded to Josh Grispi.

Hominick and Jabouin fought in the co-main event and saw both men push the pace. Near the middle of the second frame, Hominick put Jabouin into the fence and presses the attack. Jabouin climbs back to his feet and responds with a right hand that put’s Hominick on the mat. As Jabouin jumps in to finish he’s caught in Hominick’s guard who rolls him over to gain mount and finishes the fight.

Wineland was awarded the “Knockout of the Night” after stopping opponent Will Campuzano in the second round at 4:44. Wineland used a couple of tough body shots to Campuzano to put him to the mat and finishes with a good shot to the jaw to win the fight.

Grispi won the “Submission of the Night” after submitting opponent L.C. Davis in the middle of the first round. He beat out four other fighters who also earned submission victories on the evening. Davis refused to tap out and was put into unconsciousness by the choke.

The Ultimate Fighting Championships' long-expected Boston show is now set with today's official announcement of "UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn II."

The Aug. 28 event takes place at the TD Garden with a headliner and rematch between UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and ex-champ B.J. Penn.

Other rumored bouts now official include Randy Couture vs. James Toney, Gray Maynard vs. Kenny Florian, Rousimar Palhares vs. Nate Marquardt and five others.
