Kendall Grove vs. Mark Munoz rumored for UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi

A middleweight matchup between Kendall Grove (11-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) and Mark Munoz (7-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is currently being rumored as an addition to the growing card for UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.

The bout was initially reported by MMAJunkie.com after being discussed with multiple sources close to each fighter. It is also reported that one of the two potential fighters has verbally agreed to the proposed contest.

Grove recently scored an impressive submission victory over former NCAA Division I wrestling champion Jake Rosholt at UFC 108. After being dominated the first few minutes of the fight, the Hawaii-bred middleweight capitalized on a mistake by Rosholt from within the guard and secured a triangle choke. The win redeemed Grove’s previous unanimous decision loss to Ricardo Almeida at UFC 101 this past summer.

Unfortunately for Grove, he will yet again have to contend with an NCAA Division I wrestling champion in Mark Munoz.

After dominating 1st round TKO wins over his opponents on the WEC circuit, Munoz rolled over to the UFC after the WEC slashed all their divisions above the lightweight division. Munoz’s first test came against a tough opponent in Matt Hamill, and he was knocked unconscious by a devastating head kick. Since the loss, Munoz has jumped back into the win column with victories over Nick Catone and Ryan Jensen.

UFC 112 is scheduled to take place April 10 in Abu Dhabi and is headlined by a lightweight title bout between champ B.J. Penn and Frankie Edgar. The event will be the UFC’s first show in the United Arab Emirates. Recently, the UFC sold 10% of its equity shares to Flash Entertainment, a UAE government-owned entertainment consulting firm.
