Sarah Kaufman
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker is targeting the upcoming Strikeforce Challengers 9 event as the next title defense for women’s welterweight champ Sarah Kaufman (11-0).

If fight contracts are secure, Kaufman will put her title up against fellow 135-pounder Roxanne Modafferi (15-5) at the Comcast Arena in Everett, Wash.

Kaufman posted this message on the UnderGround Forums on Thursday, with a little humor thrown in referenced to April’s “Strikeforce: Nashville” event.

Hey Roxy

Wanna fight?

**awaits beatdown from Cesar Gracie crew :)

Kaufman last competed in February against Takayo Hashi at a Strikeforce Challengers 6 event, her third straight Challengers appearance, where she earned a unanimous decision to win the women’s 135 pound title. The victory was the eleventh straight win of her professional career, of which she has won 8 via T(KO).

Modafferi recently appeared at a “Moosin: God of Martial Arts” show in the only female bout to edge out Tara LaRosa by split decision. That was her second straight win and fifteenth of her career. Modafferi has won eight of her past nine fights.

UFC lightweight Nate Diaz likely will pay a $7,500 fine he expects the Tennessee Athletic Commission to hand down so he can avoid any possible hiccups to a scheduled fight with Marcus Davis.

Diaz, 25, is believed to be one of five people targeted by the TAC for disciplinary action in the wake of a post-event brawl at the April 17 "Strikeforce: Nashville" event, though the commission currently will not confirm if he is part of the group.

"We just want to get this past us, and probably we'll pay the fine and move on," Cesar Gracie, Diaz's manager, today told MMAjunkie.com.

Dream15-posterDream officials identified three possible big-name competitors for their upcoming light-heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament, set for the DREAM.15 event on July 10.

The trio include Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi and K-1 kickboxer Melvin Manhoef. No matchups or opponents were named for the fighters.

DREAM.15 is set to take place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan on July 10th in Saitama, Japan. The event is headlined by a DREAM lightweight title fight between champ Shinya Aoki vs. challenger Tatsuya Kawajiri.

Overeem is fresh off his first Strikeforce title defense having dominated heavyweight Brett Rogers at the Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery event in St. Louis. The win was the eighth straight win, including one no contest, for Overeem who finished all fights but one in the first round.

Mousasi lost his Strikeforce light-heavyweight title at the Strikeforce: Nashville event in April to Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal. The loss marked the end of a 15 fight win streak that began in November of 2006. His last win was against Gary Goodridge at the Dynamite!! 2009 event, Mousasi fought at heavyweight and earned a first round TKO victory.

Manhoef lost this past weekend in a kickboxing match against Gokhan Saki at the “It’s Showtime 2010 Amsterdam” event in the Netherlands. His last mixed-martial-arts bout was against Robbie Lawler in January at the Strikeforce: Miami event. Manhoef appeared to dominate Lawler throughout the first few minutes of the opening round before Lawler landed a right hand that KO’d the kickboxer.
