Despite losing during last nights television broadcasted UFC 127 prelim match to Alexander Gustafsson, New Zeland light heavyweight James Te-Huna earned his “win bonus” for the fight.
Te-Huna looked great in the opening few minutes against Gustafsson but appeared to tire at the end of the round. Gustafsson would take control of the fight and would take Te-Huna’s back using a rear-naked choke to force the tap at 4:27 of the first round.
Before the fight Te-Huna had made it known that he was donating his fight purse to the Christchurch earthquake victims in New Zealand. At the post fight press conference, UFC Managing Director of International Development, Marshall Zelaznik announced that the promotion would be matching Te-Huna’s donation.
Now it appears that Te-Huna’s donation also includes his win bonus as UFC President Dana White made the announcement via Twitter (@danawhite) during last nights event.
@GrabakaHitman sent this message to White “@danawhite Riki Fukuda deserves his win money” who responded “@GrabakaHitman he’s gettin it.”
This is great to see the UFC helping out even more as the promotion is already providing disaster relief donations for the flooded Queensland area in Australia with their UFC.TheGivingBridge.com auction site. The UFC is auctioning off fighter gear from last nights event to raise money for flood relief to the stricken area.
No Dana White at this post fight press conference, instead UFC Managing Director of International Development, Marshall Zelaznik, oversaw the proceedings after last nights UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch event.
UFC 127 brought in 18,186 fans into the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia for an approx. gate total of $3.5 million.
“Fight Night” bonuses of $75,000 were handed down to Mark Hunt, Kyle Noke, Chris Lytle and Brian Ebersole.
Zelaznik told the gathered press that UFC prelim fighter James Te-Huna would be donating his full purse to the New Zealand earthquake relief efforts, and that the UFC would match the donation. Te-Huna was submitted in the first round by Alexander Gustafsson of their TV broadcasted fight.
“Knockout of the Night” was awarded to Mark Hunt who earned a second round knockout of opponent Chris Tuchscherer on the unaired prelim card. The win was Hunt’s first in the UFC and first win in seven fights.
With four submissions on the night, it was fitting that an Australian was the one to win the “Submission of the Night” bonus, as main card winner Kyle Noke earned a first round rear-naked choke submission over opponent Chris Camozzi.
“Fight of the Night” went to main card fighters Brian Ebersole and Chris Lytle. The two longtime mma veterans, who have a combined total of 115 professional fights between them, battled it out for three rounds in an entertaining match. Ebersole, who made his UFC debut, stepped in for an injured Carlos Condit against Lytle to win a unanimous decision.

Competitors fighting on tomorrow nights BAMMA 5 card, the latest event for the UK based British Association of Mixed Martial Arts, took to the scales today.
According to MMAWeekly.com, fighters ran into a bit of a problem before the scheduled weigh-in time as the hotel hosting the fighters accidentally switched off the sauna, forcing fighters to find a new venue to continue cutting weight.
This could have certainly been part of the reason for three main card fighters missing weight.
Headliner Paul Daley weighed in at 172 lbs on his first attempt, and was unable to hit the 170 lb limit for the BAMMA welterweight title, finally weighing in at 170.4 lbs. He will now meet DEEP champion Yuya Shirai (169.6) in a non-title match.
Co-event headliner former UFC heavyweight champ, Ricco Rodriguez was also unable to meet his catchweight limit of 215 lbs by hitting the scales at 217 lb for his fight against James McSweeney (214.6).
Daley has had a history of missing weight for matches, failing five times out of his last eleven fights to make the proper cut. He’ll have to suffer a cut to his fight purse for failing to make weight as well as losing a shot at the BAMMA title.

Mixed martial arts fans already knew that the upcoming bout between former two division UFC champ BJ Penn (16-7-1) and former welterweight contender Jon Fitch (23-3, 1NC) would decide which fighter stood higher in the 170 lb division, but it will also determine who gets the next title shot.
UFC President Dana White made the announcement on Tuesday during a conference call for UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch.
“Let’s face it, the reality is B.J. Penn has held titles in both weight classes. Fitch has fought for the title and has literally dominated that division for a long time, just didn’t win the title. Any one of these guys that wins this fight is in the mix — the No. 1 guy.”
Penn recently returned to the welterweight division earning a quick 21-second victory over Matt Hughes at UFC 123, it was their third meeting and puts Penn at 2-1 against the former 170 lb champion. The win erased back-to-back losses against Frankie Edgar for the UFC lightweight title.
Fitch meanwhile has won five straight since his loss to welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre at UFC 87, and puts his record at 21-1-1 since his second professional defeat back in December of 2002. His last octagon appearance was at UFC 117 when he earned a unanimous decision against Thiago Alves in a 171.5 lbs catchweight bout.
