‘Irish Hand Grenade’ set to explode at MFC 29
Marcus Davis to debut at Conquer against ‘Ragin’ Kajan Johnson
Press Release – Already sporting a talent-rich lightweight roster, the Maximum Fighting Championship has added one of the division’s most powerful strikers, and a fighter who has targeted big finishes in fan-favorite encounters.
Marcus “The Irish Hand Grenade” Davis has signed a multi-fight deal with the Maximum Fighting Championship, and will make his much-anticipated debut when S.L. Feldman’s & Associates presents MFC 29: Conquer at The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor on Friday, April 8. Tickets for the event go on sale at Noon ET on Friday, March 4 at www.caesarswindsor.com and The Colosseum box office.
Davis (17-8) is expected to meet the livewire “Ragin” Kajan Johnson (18-11-1) in one of the featured matchups that will air live on HDNet Fights.
The Bangor, Maine, product and member of Team Sityodtong already feels like he has found a home in the MFC which prides itself in pushing the entertainment envelope.
“I feel I’m sort of the Nostradamus of MMA,” explained Davis. “When I started in the sport I was talking to boxing magazines and told them that MMA was going to take over boxing. They said I was crazy but it happened.
“I feel the same about being in the MFC. (Owner/President) Mark Pavelich has done a very good job not only developing his brand but also developing his fighters. That’s why I made the choice I did.
“I’m a fighter who wears his heart on his sleeve. I go out and give it all I’ve got to be entertaining. I think my style fits very well with the MFC.”
Davis is well-known for his all-out clashes as the 37-year-old has built a reputation of fights that leave a lasting impression. His career is highlighted by an 11-fight winning streak that included victories over notables such as Pete Spratt, Shonie Carter, Forrest Petz, Paul Taylor, and Jess Liaudin. While building up six knockouts and eight submission stoppages, Davis has captured victories over rival big punchers such as Jonathan Goulet, Chris Lytle, and Paul Kelly.
“No matter what, every time I fight, I try to end the fight and I’m bleeding all over somebody,” cracked Davis.
“I think the MFC lightweight division is stacked but there’s no doubt I’m the best striker. That’s what I’m going to bring. I’m going to get right in there. I’m looking forward to coming in and making a big splash.”
Johnson, who fights out of Vancouver, B.C., is coming off a one-sided decision win over Ryan Healy at MFC 27. Although Johnson sports four knockouts and 10 submissions on his resume, Davis doesn’t expect his upcoming foe to be ready for this sizeable step up.
“He hasn’t faced the type of competition I’ve faced and he has no idea the level of where my confidence is at,” added Davis. “He’s tough but I’m very confident.”

Huge win for ‘Big Deal’ at MFC 28
Jimmo wins title, slick Fickett racks up victory at Supremacy
Press Release – Ryan “The Big Deal” Jimmo seized the moment when it was there and secured the MFC world light-heavyweight title with a third-round TKO win over Dwayne “D-Bomb” Lewis in the main event of Maximum Fighting Championship’s MFC 28: Supremacy.
The event went down at a sold-out and raucous River Cree Resort and Casino, just outside Edmonton, Alberta, and aired live on HDNet Fights.
Jimmo (14-1) earned his 14th consecutive win by finishing Lewis (13-7) at the 3:13 mark of Round 3 when referee Brian Beauchamp, after consulting with the ringside physician, waved off the bout. After a trip takedown and some heavy-handed ground-and-pound, Lewis’s face was severely damaged with a huge hematoma under his left eye and a likely broken orbital bone. It was a crushing setback for the Fort McMurray, Alberta, product who had an overwhelming army of supporters in attendance.
“It’s a dream come true to win the MFC title since this is the place where my career began,” said Jimmo, now lives and fights out of Edmonton, Alberta.
“I plan on keeping this belt over my shoulder for a long time.”
In the semi-main event, Drew “Night Rider” Fickett (41-13) made short work of late injury replacement Matt Veach. Fickett, who was supposed to challenge Antonio McKee for the MFC lightweight title until the champ sustained a knee injury and could not defend, needed only 36 seconds to secure an armbar submission of Veach (15-3).
Fickett, who fights out of Tucson, Arizona, left no doubt as to who is the rightful top contender in the MFC’s stacked 155-pound division.
“It doesn’t matter to me who has the belt. I’m coming for it and it will be mine. I’m making my home in the MFC,” said Fickett.
Lightweights Richie Whitson and Curtis Demarce put forth an early contender for Fight of the Year in a scintillating stand-up battle.
Demarce, who fights out of Brandon, Manitoba, nearly put Whitson away early on as he repeatedly tagged the Temecula, California, product, with an overhand right that bloodied Whitson. Demarce continued to connect in Round 2 and seemingly had Whitson in trouble, but the native Alaskan rallied and turned the tables on Demarce when he found his opponent’s chin with a devastating kick. After a back-and-forth final round, the bout went to the judges and Whitson escaped with a narrow victory via split decision.
All three judges scored the bout 29-28 with Whitson (11-1) taking the nod on two cards. The gut-wrenching loss ended a seven-fight winning streak for Demarce (10-8).
Two other bouts were left in the judges’ hands as well. After charging through a dominant first round, Sheldon Westcott, who was fighting in front of his home-town fans, ran out of steam and allowed veteran Thomas “Wildman” Denny to gain the upper hand especially in Round 3. However, both fighters were left frustrated by the end result. While judges Brian Beauchamp and Vern Gorman each had one fighter getting a 29-28 nod, judge Bill Warwick saw it even at 28-28 and the fight was ruled a split draw.
“I’d rather have the win or the loss, but not a draw,” said a dejected Westcott (4-1-1). “We have to do this again and settle it.”
Denny (27-18-1), too, called for a rematch, though he hoped it might take place on neutral ground.
The other fight to go the distance saw Tyrone “T$” Glover (6-0) control much of his encounter with Robert “The Beast” Washington (9-2). Glover had several shots at a submission including a very tight triangle late in Round 2, but was unable to secure a finish. Still, the Wheat Ridge, Colorado, product took the decision, albeit in split voting (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).
Former MFC light-heavyweight champ Emanuel “The Hardcore Kid” Newton did secure the submission when he got the opportunity, coaxing a tapout via rear-naked choke from Rodney Wallace at the 4:34 mark of Round 2. For Newton (14-6-1), who fights out of Long Beach, California, it was a triumphant return to the MFC as he tries to regain his footing in the 205-pound division, while Charlotte, North Carolina’s Wallace (10-4) was unable to build on his win from MFC 27.
Preliminary results:
Dan Ring def. Garret Nybakken – tapout via rear-naked choke, 2:21 Round 2
Brendan Kornberger def. Paapa Inkumsah – unanimous decision
The Maximum Fighting Championship returns – and makes its debut in the Province of Ontario – on Friday, April 8 when S.L. Feldman’s & Associates presents MFC 29: Conquer live from The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor.

Former UFC lightweight/welterweight Marcus Davis’ attempt to regain the form resulting in victory eight of the first nine times he stepped foot in the Octagon will start North of the Border later this year as Canada’s Maximum Fighting Championships announced “The Irish Hand Grenade” had been inked to a deal during Friday night’s broadcast of MFC 28.
Neither an opponent or date for his debut were mentioned.
Davis holds an overall record of 17-8 but fell in four of his last five outings with three coming by way of knockout. However, the 37-year old held his own against Dan Hardy during the slide and possesses past wins over respectable opposition like Paul Taylor and Chris Lytle. Similar Posts:

A pair of win streaks continued Friday night in the Great White North as Drew Fickett and Ryan Jimmo both cruised to victory in their respective bouts at “MFC 28: Supremacy”. The performances marked Fickett’s fifth and Jimmo’s fourteenth consecutive victories though both finishes were as different as could be.
Fickett tapped HIT Squad member Matt Veach less than a minute into the opening round after being taken down, then working his rubber guard into position for a fight-ending Armbar. The showing marked the thirtieth submission victory Fickett’s career and his 41st overall with past success against a number of notable adversaries including Kurt Pellegrino, Josh Neer, and Josh Koscheck. It was his first fight since winning a trio of bouts on a single night under the Shine Fights banner this past September.
On the other end of the spectrum, Jimmo battered opponent Dwayne Lewis in their light heavyweight title-fight to the point ringside officials were forced to stop things after Lewis’ orbital bone was broken to the point a mouse looking more like a NYC sewer rat had formed around his eye. The championship-winning stoppage came a little more than midway through the third round and continued an impressive run for the Canadian who hasn’t lost since his professional debut more than four years ago.
Here is a complete listing of MFC 28 results:
Brendan Kornberger def. Paapa Inkumsah via Unanimous Decision
Dan Ring def. Garret Nybakken via Submission Round 2 (Rear-Naked Choke)
Tyrone Glover def. Robert Washington via Split Decision
Emmanuel Newton def. Rodney Wallace via Submission Round 2 (Rear-Naked Choke)
Thomas Denny draws with Sheldon Westcott
Richie Whitson def. Curtis Demarce via Split Decision
Drew Fickett def. Matt Veach via Submission Round 1 (Armbar)
Ryan Jimmo def. Dwayne Lewis via TKO Round 3 (Doctor’s Stoppage)

After suffering a knockout loss to Jeremy Stephens in his lightweight debut at UFC 125, veteran Marcus “Irish Hand Grenade” Davis (17-8) was released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It was the second straight loss for Davis who had gone 1-4 in his last five fights.
On Friday night, Maximum Fighting Championship President Mark Pavelich announced during the HDNet broadcast of MFC 28: Supremacy, that the promotion had signed Davis and who would debut in the near future.
Davis has fallen on hard times since an eleven fight win streak was stopped by Mike Swick at UFC 85 in June 2008. Since that time “The Irish Hand Grenade” put together a 3-5 record which included two “Fight of the Night” bonuses.
In Davis’ 15 fight career with the UFC, fourteen of those matches were fought at welterweight, only making the decision to drop to lightweight after a technical submission loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 116 last summer. Despite appearing much more energized at the lighter weight at UFC 125, Davis was caught in the third round by Stephens and suffered the second knockout loss of his career.
No word on when, or who Davis might meet in his MFC debut, but the promotion is headed to Ontario in April and may have a spot for the UFC vet on that card.
