Fast-rising Strikeforce middleweight contender Tim Kennedy hopes champion Jake Shields remains with the organization.

Kennedy, who delivered Trevor Prangley just the second submission loss of his career this past week at "Strikeforce: Los Angeles," wants to go about winning a title the right way: by defeating an established champion.

But if Shields does end up signing with the UFC and vacating his belt with Strikeforce, Kennedy told MMAjunkie.com Radio he sees many intriguing matchups that could be part of the organization's potential eight-man tournament - one that would crown a new champ.

BJJ Poll: Do You Feel Comfortable Rolling with Jiu-jitsu Players of the Opposite Sex?

We received this question from a listener to The FightWorks Podcast here in Southern California, who called our toll free number 877-247-4662 and left us this message:

I’m calling you from Los Angeles and I got a question for you regarding rolling with people from your school of the opposite gender. I know at our school we have some smaller, petite female jiu-jitsu players that are also good looking. I know sometimes they don’t feel comfortable rolling with other guys. They only roll with guys they know that they can trust either to not smother them or to not, you know, be discourteous. I’d like to know how many jiu-jitsu players out there of the Mighty 600,000 feel comfortable rolling with jiu-jitsu players of the opposite sex.

So that’s this week’s BJJ Poll!

I look forward to hearing what the results of the poll will be, as well as what some of the comments will be on this post. I know there is a noteworthy cadre of female jiu-jitsu bloggers out there who weigh in on related topics all the time. This should be a good one.

Make sure you vote and leave your comments here on the site!

LOS ANGELES - As Strikeforce continues its expansion across the U.S., the promotion's
CEO, Scott Coker, says a pair of new cities each are likely to host an
event in August.

While Coker insisted that nothing yet is set in stone, on Wednesday
night the Strikeforce exec confirmed previous reports that both Houston
and Phoenix
are in the running for late summer events.

But according to Coker, Strikeforce has no intentions of staying within
U.S. borders, and international fans can expect to see the company
spreading across the globe within the next 12 months.

Babalu Sobral
After a successful victory over “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler at the June 16 Strikeforce: “Los Angeles” event Babalu wasted no time in calling out former Pride champion Dan Henderson. Renato “Babalu” Sobral spoke recently with MMA Weekly:

“I won’t never punch and try to hurt my friends, but I would like to ask for a fight, and all the respect that I have, in the beginning of my career I fought Dan Henderson in Japan and lost to him. I don’t want to disrespect, but I would like to fight him”

The match Sobral is speaking of occured under the RINGS promotion and happened 10 years ago, so really it seems that a rematch would be more than overdue. Expect Strikeforce to make this happen, and expect Henderson to look much better than his previous fight against Jake Shields.

A middleweight, Lawler met opponent Renato "Babalu" Sobral at a catchweight of 195 pounds in the main event of Wednesday's "Strikeforce: Los Angeles" event. After three rounds and 15 minutes of action, he lost two out of three rounds on the judges' scorecards and suffered a unanimous-decision defeat.

"Plain and simple, I thought I was going to knock him out," Lawler said.

LOS ANGELES - Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos no longer feels like the little guy.

The former Chute Boxe fighter and other half of Strikeforce women's middleweight title-holder Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos said he undertook his first diet in preparation for a bout against Marius Zaramoskis at "Strikeforce: Los Angeles."

And judging from the fight's result - a first-round knockout of the DREAM welterweight champion - Santos feels he made the right move.

Strikeforce boss: Noons vs. Diaz II likely, "King Karl" eyes three future titles

June 17th, 2010 | Author: MMAJunkie.com

LOS ANGELES - Prior to Wednesday night, two years and two days had passed since former
EliteXC lightweight champion K.J. Noons had fought in
front of an American TV audience.

But for most of the "Strikeforce: Los Angeles" fight, Noons looked like he hadn't lost a step despite a
recent 21-month layoff from competition.

Now Noons is anxious to prove that theory, and it appears a second
meeting with current Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz is a
near certainty. And then there's the small matter of the
three titles Noons wants to pin down.
