Mark Greubel said Carlos Iraburo's knockout of Michael Kirkham at this past Saturday's
"Confrontation at the Convocation Center" wasn't unlike thousands of
fights he'd seen before.

Greubel, who trained Iraburo and was in his corner during the fight,
also said that the event, which took place at the USC Aiken Convocation
Center in Aiken, S.C., was well-managed by its promoters and athletic
commission officials.

"I didn't see anything out of the ordinary or that I could say was
suspect," Greubel today told MMAjunkie.com.

Matt Brown is set to take on Chris “Lights Out” Lytle at UFC 116 on July 3 and the fight has MMA fans salivating for what should be an exciting bout. The first fight between the two took place outside the UFC with Lytle getting the submission victory via guillotine choke but Brown had only two weeks to prepare for the bout. This time both fighters have had a full camp and Brown will be hungry for a win after lossing to Ricardo Almeida at UFC 111. Lytle has rattled off two victories in a row, his latest coming at UFC 110 against Brian Foster. Brown isn’t looking for Fight of the Night honors though, he’s looking for the KO of the Night(quote via UFC.com):

“This time I have a full training camp, so I’ll be prepared for whatever comes,” he says. “And I can see where people are coming from with the fight of the night stuff. There’s no question that if I was looking at it from the outside that I would say it’s got Fight of the Night written all over it. But I plan on it being Knockout of the Night—I don’t see it being Fight of the Night at all. I’m going to knock him out. I don’t think either of us is going to be happy with this fight going to a decision. We’re coming, we’re out for blood. We’re coming to hurt each other.”

UFC President Dana White has guaranteed that Chuck Liddell will never again fight in the octagon following his first-round knockout loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 115. White, speaking with MMAFighting.com after the event, insisted his long time friend would now hang up the gloves for good.

“I thought Chuck looked great right up until it ended but I guarantee you that tonight was the last time” said White.

Despite dominating the majority of the bout with some vintage striking, Liddell was caught by a crisp Franklin lead hook late in the first round. The 40-year old former champion’s weakened chin abandoned him again as he suffered his third straight knockout defeat. Once widely regarded as the world’s best light heavyweight, he’s now dropped five of his last six fights.

Liddell is yet to make a formal announcement regarding his future.

Jeremy Stephens vs. Melvin Guillard set for UFC 119

Melvin Guillard made it a point to call Jeremy “Little Heathen” Stephens out following his recent UFC 114 TKO of Waylon Lowe, and it now appears that the UFC has granted “The Young Assassin” his wish.

A lightweight scrap extremely likely to end via vicious knockout between Stephens and Guillard is currently being targeted for UFC 119 according to a recent report on MMAJunkie.com.

UFC 119 is expected to take place on September 25 from the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Both Stephens and Guillard have established reputations as knockout artists at 155 lbs., with Stephens finishing 13 of his 18 victories via KO or TKO for a 72% knockout ratio, while Guillard has stopped 14 of his 24 victims for a knockout ratio of 58%.

Styles make fights and this fight has all of the ingredients to end with a “Fight of the Night” award being collected by one or both fighters when the dust has a chance to settle.

With a career record of 18-5, Stephens currently sports a UFC record of 5-4. The 24-year-old veteran of more than five years is currently riding a two-fight win streak with the promotion with recent impressive showings against Justin Buchholz and Sam Stout.

Guillard is the more experienced fighter of the two with a career record of 24-8 and an Octagon record of 7-4. Guillard has looked better than ever since hooking up with Greg Jackson in New Mexico and is currently coming off of back-to-back victories in the UFC over Ronys Torres and Waylon Lowe.

One and done for UFC 115 headliner Chuck Liddell? "Iceman" remains undecided

Immediately after Chuck Liddell dropped a first-round knockout loss to
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 97 and suffered his fourth defeat in five
fights, UFC president Dana White announced the UFC Hall of Famer's
retirement from the sport.

Liddell didn't argue with the big boss, but he didn't exactly close the
door on his career either.

So when he comes out of that 14-month imposed layoff for a fight with
Rich Franklin at Saturday's UFC 115 event in Vancouver, he's not exactly
sure it'll be a one-time thing.

Despite win, UFC 114′s Cyrille Diabate sees too many mistakes in performance

Cyrille Diabate sat in the UFC media center and got instant feedback on his performance as the big-screen TV replayed his UFC 114 fight with Luiz Cane.

Diabate, who hails from Paris, sat stone-faced as the fight played out, and he didn't say much when it was over.

Diabate survived a flash knockout in the fight's opening moments but managed to recover and light up the Brazilian with a flurry of punches that won him a first-round TKO. But he saw plenty wrong with his performance.

Todd Duffee gets ready for the second course

May 18th, 2010 | Author: UFC Press Releases

Chuck Mindenhall, UFC - If Todd Duffee keeps up his current pace of disposing of UFC heavyweights, he will have to fight 43 guys before he'll acquire a full round of experience. However, as auspicious as his Octagon debut was against Tim Hague at UFC 102 in Portland—signing off on the fastest knockout in UFC history—he doesn't think he'll finish Mike Russow in just seven seconds.
