It took a while, but welterweight Ben Askren finally earned a Bellator
win over somebody not named Ryan Thomas.
The former Olympic wrestler saved perhaps his best performance for last,
and the 25-year-old ran roughshod over the formerly streaking Dan
Hornbuckle en route to claiming Bellator's season-two welterweight
tournament crown.
The win served as the featured contest in Wednesday's Bellator 22 event
at the Kansas City Power & Light District in Kansas City. As with
all Bellator events, the card aired nationally on FOX Sports Net.

Bellator's season-two tournament finals will take place in the Bluegrass
State.
While initial reports from the company suggested that the season-two
ending Bellator 24 event, which takes place on June 24, would be held at
the Kansas City Power & Light District, the organization will
instead make its first venture to Kentucky.
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney announced today on MMAjunkie.com Radio that Bellator 24 would take place in
Louisville, Ky., and additional sources have indicated that the Fourth Street Live! entertainment complex is the
likely host venue.

Russian star Alexander Shlemenko is the final member of Bellator Fighting Championships' middleweight tournament field, organization officials today announced.
The fighter, who owns a stellar 27-4 record, now meets Matt Major this week at Bellator 16 at the Kansas City Power & Light District entertainment complex in Missouri.
Sources close to the promotion told MMAjunkie.com that Bellator officials have been working on contract and visa issues for more than a month to land Shlemenko - and held off on naming a replacement because they wanted him in the tourney so badly.

Dan "The Handler" Hornbuckle
CHICAGO (April 12, 2010) — Tyler Stinson, the 24-year-old winner of Bellator Fighting Championships’ Kansas City tryout has been added to Bellator’s eight-man welterweight tournament, replacing Sean Pierson, who was forced to withdraw because of a serious knee injury suffered in training.
Stinson (16-5) will face knockout artist Dan “The Handler” Hornbuckle (19-2) in a first round bout at Bellator 15 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn., on April 22.
“I feel really badly for Sean. He’s a great guy and this was a tremendous opportunity for him that he was totally focused on. Hopefully, when he rehabs his knee, we can get him back fighting at Bellator. At the same time, I’m happy that we can provide this chance to Tyler and that he was ready to step up and take advantage of this great shot,” said Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Tyler caught our eye at our open tryout. He’s hungry and he can fight, which could make for a very interesting fight with Dan.”
Stinson was originally scheduled to participate in a Local Feature Fight against Demi Deeds at Bellator’s April 29th event at the Kansas City Power & Light District. A replacement for Stinson in that fight will be announced soon.
