The Bellator Fighting Championship has signed middleweight Matt Major (6-1) to the organization’s season-two eight-man middleweight tournament.
Bellator’s second season commences in April with live Thursday-night events on FOX Sports Net Affiliates.
Major has won his last three fights defeating Marcus Gaines, Jaime Fletcher, and Shonie Carter.
“All I ever wanted to do was be the next Jean Claude Van Damme, the next Steven Segal, the next Bruce Lee. And now I’m better than all of them,” he said in a Bellator release. “I knew since I was a little kid that I was going to be a great fighter.”
Major studied fashion at several art schools like the Art Institute of New York, before turning to MMA fulltime a few years ago. His goal in Bellator is to win the middleweight tournament to earn a title shot at season-one winner and champion Hector Lombard.
“The real question is: ‘Is Hector Lombard ready for Matt Major?’” Major stated. “I’ll tell you right now, if Hector Lombard knows I’m in the tournament, I know he’s worried about it. I want to be a world champion more than anything, and I don’t care who I have to fight or what I have to do to get there.”
