The WEC invades Canada this evening as the promotion’s latest installment is set to take place from the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta while airing live on the Versus network.

5 Oz coverage of WEC 49 will kick off right around 7:00 pm ET (4:00 pm PT) when the first set of fighters touch gloves, while the main card action will be broadcast live on Versus at 9:00 pm ET (6:00 pm PT).

Headlining the card will be a lightweight scrap with future title fight implications between former WEC champion Jamie Varner and undefeated former Olympic wrestler Kamal Shalorus.

The weigh-ins for the World Extreme Cagefighting’s next event, “WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus” will take place today at 7 PM EST (4 PM PST).

The weigh-ins are taking place at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the same venue for Sunday’s event. The main card will be carried on the Versus network live beginning Sunday night.

Fans can watch today’s weigh-ins live at WEC.tv, which hosts a live video stream that can be viewed by anyone with a fast enough internet connection (isn’t that all of us by now?).

The event is headlined by a lightweight bout between former WEC champ Jamie Varner who takes on the “Prince of Persia” Kamal Shalorus.

The upcoming World Extreme Cagefighting promotions first venture into Canada, WEC 49, is now full with all 11 bouts official for the event.

WEC 49 will take place on June 20 at Rexall PLace in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and will see the main card broadcast on the Versus network. The show is headlined by a lightweight bout between former champ Jamie Varner and Kamal Shalorus.

The last two bouts made official by WEC officials were the main-card addition of bantamweights Eddie Wineland (16-6-1) vs. Will Campuzano (9-1) and a preliminary-card fight of 135-pounders Rafael Rebello (6-3 vs. Chris Cariaso (9-1).

MMAjunkie.com reported both bouts earlier this week, and WEC officials have since made the changes official.

After original opponent Will Campuzano was pulled from the bout and promoted to a main-card fight with Eddie Wineland, bantamweight Rafael Rebello is now slated to fight promotional newcomer Chris Cariaso on the preliminary card of next month's WEC 49 event.

A source close to the negotiations told MMAjunkie.com that verbal agreements are in place, and bout agreements are expected to be signed shortly.

Featuring a lightweight matchup between former champion Jamie Varner and rising prospect Kamal Shalorus, WEC 49 takes place June 20 at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

After an injury forced Charlie Valencia out of his main card bout with Eddie Wineland (16-6-1), the WEC has promoted Will Campuzano (9-1) from the preliminary card into Valencia’s spot.

Campuzano had been scheduled to face Rafel Raebello, who will stay on the event card for WEC 49 but no new opponent has been named yet.

‘WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus’ is set to take place on June 20 at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is the promotions first trip to Canada and is headlined by a lightweight bout between Jamie Varner and Kamal Shalorus.

Campuzo earned the “Fight of the Night” honor for his performance in his last fight on WEC 46’s preliminary card against Coty Wheeler on Jan 10, earning a unanimous decision victory. The bantamweight fighter bounced back from his first career loss to Damacio Page in his WEC debut on Oct. 10.

Meanwhile, Wineland rides a two fight win streak having earned back-to-back unanimous decisions over George Roop at WEC 46 and Manny Tapia at WEC 43. In May of 2006, Wineland became the first WEC bantamweight champion by defeating Antonio Banuelos at WEC 20. He subsequently lost the title to Chase Beebe in his first title defense at WEC 26 in March 2007.
