This past weekend in Cleveland, Ohio, the staff of Powerlifting Watch had the pleasure of witnessing the induction of Cathy Marksteiner and Harriet Hall into the USAPL Women's Hall of Fame. Powerlifting Watch would like to extend our congratulations to both women on the monumental achievement. Our sport is better because of your selfless and untiring contributions. Profiles of both women will eventually be posted here.
For the fifteenth time in her illustrious powerlifting career, SSPT lifter Sioux-Z Hartwig-Gary (coached by husband Matt Gary) took home the title of national champion on Saturday in Cleveland. Hartwig-Gary set a new IPF master's and American record total with 963 pounds in the 114 lb. class by way of a 380 pound squat (meet/American/IPF M1 WR), 214 pound bench, and a 369 pound deadlift.
Wrapping up the afternoon session from Cleveland today, Liane Blyn (181), Jill Arnow (198) and Jessica O'Donnell (UNL) stand victorious at the 2010 USAPL women's nationals.
148 pound class lifter Alyssa Hitchcock walked away with the title and the morning session's best lifter award at this year's USAPL women's nationals in Cleveland. Hitchcock posted a 1,212 pound total that included a huge 501 pound deadlift on her third attempt. Erin Walterman went 1,102 pounds for 2nd and Donna Marts placed third with 925 pounds.
In the 165 pound class, Sandra Sebastian took first place honors with a 1,140 pound total.
Seattle lifter Katherine Clark (123) has triumphed over Rowena Lopez in Cleveland today at the USAPL women's nationals. Clark took the early lead in the squats, only to have Lopez come roaring back with a huge bench press. Going into the 3rd attempt deadlifts, Clark was ahead 417.5K to Lopez's 412.5K. Coach Tony Cardella called 160K for his lifter's (Rowena) 3rd attempt deadlift; but it was not to be. Clark went ahead and attempted 167.5, but it was just a bit too much as well. Nevertheless, with Lopez's 3rd attempt miss Clark was crowned the 123 pound champion with a 920 pound total. That will also rank her #2 on the current (last 12 months) Powerlifting Watch single ply lifter rankings.
The 2010 USAPL Women’s Nationals (May 22-23) will be streamed live right here on Powerlifting Watch. The national competition will be held in the Grand Ball Room of the Historic Renaissance Hotel in Cleveland. Meet directors Gary Kanaga and Steve Petrencak have posted the current roster here. Perennial powerhouses Sioux-Z Hartwig-Gary, Priscilla Ribic, and Jessica O’Donnell lead the way of committed entries; along with Rowena Lopez, Jill Arnow, and Harriet Hall. The women’s nationals are the United States main qualifier for the IPF World Championships.
To follow is the training odyssey of USAPL defending 114 champion, Raw Unity female lightweight champion, and #1 ranked Powerlifting Watch lifter rankings 114 raw and single ply lifter Sioux-Z Hartwig-Gary as she prepares for this upcoming weekend's USAPL Women's Nationals in Cleveland. In the video, Sioux-Z shares with us the "right recipe for being a champion":
Joe Marksteiner, creator of Next Lifter Software, has announced that the scoreboard for the USAPL Women’s Nationals (May 22 & 23 in Cleveland) will be on line during the contest and can be found here. Powerlifting Watch would like to note that the scoreboard seems to work better in Microsoft Internet Explorer than Mozilla Firefox.
