Matt Brown is set to take on Chris “Lights Out” Lytle at UFC 116 on July 3 and the fight has MMA fans salivating for what should be an exciting bout. The first fight between the two took place outside the UFC with Lytle getting the submission victory via guillotine choke but Brown had only two weeks to prepare for the bout. This time both fighters have had a full camp and Brown will be hungry for a win after lossing to Ricardo Almeida at UFC 111. Lytle has rattled off two victories in a row, his latest coming at UFC 110 against Brian Foster. Brown isn’t looking for Fight of the Night honors though, he’s looking for the KO of the Night(quote via UFC.com):

“This time I have a full training camp, so I’ll be prepared for whatever comes,” he says. “And I can see where people are coming from with the fight of the night stuff. There’s no question that if I was looking at it from the outside that I would say it’s got Fight of the Night written all over it. But I plan on it being Knockout of the Night—I don’t see it being Fight of the Night at all. I’m going to knock him out. I don’t think either of us is going to be happy with this fight going to a decision. We’re coming, we’re out for blood. We’re coming to hurt each other.”

Ricardo Almeida Looking Forward To Facing Matt Hughes At UFC 117

Ricardo AlmeidaNow that he’s dropped to the welterweight division, Ricardo Almaida (12-3) can’t wait to face former champ and UFC hall of famer Matt Hughes in the octagon. He is not one to take losses lightly and will look to avenge a previous loss to Hughes in 2000 at an ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship event.

Almaida asked for the fight after watching his teacher Renzo Gracie lose to Hughes at UFC 112. He cornered UFC match maker Joe Silva and asked for the fight before Hughes was even declared the winner.

“I was like, ‘Please let me fight Matt Hughes,’” Almeida told MMA Fighting. “I said, ‘That’s the fight I want. If you guys think it makes sense, let’s do it.’”

“Honestly I never thought about fighting him in MMA before,” he said. “But after I dropped to welterweight, here we are.”

Almeida has taken a different approach to preparing for the fight and has actually increased in size for the fight at 170.

“I changed some things in my training,” he said. “I brought in a nutritionist and someone to watch over the weight cut, so when I fought Brown I was five pounds heavier than when I fought Kendall [Grove]. When I fought Kendall I was 187, when I fought Brown I was 192 walking in the ring. Ever since the Brown fight I’ve been lifting weights and working on things outside of martial arts training. I’m probably 198 right now. Matt is a strong guy and I don’t want to be outmuscled by him. Putting on a couple pounds I think is going to help me. We’ll see how I deal with the weight cut but I’m confident it’s going to be no problem.”

“It’s a chance to be in the spotlight fighting a legend like Matt Hughes and pushing my game to a whole new level,” he said. “He’s probably one of the best wrestlers ever, for sure one of the best welterweights ever, and I’m preparing to fight that guy, the guy that beat the who’s who of the division. I’m very excited about it.”

UFC 117 will take place on Aug. 7 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Cali. and will be headlined by a UFC middleweight bout between champion Anderson Silva vs. challenger Chael Sonnen.

Could Jose Aldo become a 3-division champion?

A 23 years of age, it’s likely that WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo may not reach his physical or fighting prime for another seven to eight years. This is a terrifying prospect to those that choose to collect their paychecks competing in MMA’s lighter divisions.

Already established as one of the most fearsome strikers in the sport with a reputation of possessing an even more lethal submission game, Aldo currently seems to be champion without peers in the WEC’s featherweight bracket, having recently dominated the division’s former champions – Urijah Faber and Mike Brown – in one-sided muggings.

With just a single title defense to his resume at this point in the game, there’s no doubt that talk of complete weight class domination could be extremely early in reference to Aldo. However, while “phenom” is a word thrown around loosely in this sport, Jose Aldo seems to be one fighter that absolutely fits the bill.

Could a move to lightweight or even featherweight be on the horizon in the near future for Aldo? According to the Brazilian-based fighter, he’s in no rush, but he’s not ruling anything out either.

“Yes, it’s possible that I can to a lighter or a heavier division, but I sure want to do some belt defenses first,” said Aldo in a recent conversation with Tatame.com. “I want to build a solid career on the featherweight division. But, in the future, I may take a risk and change divisions.”

If there was one fighter in the sport that has the ability to become a champion in three separate weight classes, it may very well be Aldo in the WEC.

Keith “Boogie” Brown

May 29th, 2010 | Author: timpane

Hi,

My name is Keith "Boogie" Brown. I was lucky enough to win a pair of MyHouse board shorts at a raffle at the "Good Fight" Thanksgiving Throwdown 2 and I've been rocking them ever since. From the practice mats, to the boxing ring, to the cage, these shorts hold up and stay comfortable. I have been spreading the word that My House gear is the truth. I will definitely be wearing them when I step in the cage for Naga's "Reality Fighting" at the Battle at the Beach weekend in Wildwood.

Attached are a few shots of me in "MyHouse"!
