Brandon Vera received more than a bruised ego on Sunday at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colo.; a fearsome elbow strike from opponent Jon Jones left the UFC light heavyweight with facial fractures and an unknown return date.

In the night's Versus-televised main event, Jones landed the blow as he postured up in Vera's guard midway through the first round. Vera rolled to his side in visible pain when the shot slammed into the right side of his face near his eye socket.

The strike caused three fractures in Vera's right cheekbone, the fighter's manager, Matt Stansell, today told MMAjunkie.com.

BROOMFIELD, Colo. - Dana White found a way to dodge the question a dozen different ways from a dozen different reporters - both before and after Sunday's UFC on Versus 1 post-fight press conference.

But following the heavyweight fighter's dismantling of Gabriel Gonzaga, Junior Dos Santos would seem a logical next opponent for fellow fast-rising heavyweight prospect Cain Velasquez.

While UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com that Dos Santos' latest win solidifies his standing as "the real deal," he's not ready to commit to Velasquez - or any potential opponent - just yet.

BROOMFIELD, Colo. - UFC president Dana White has seen his share of
potential competitors fall by the wayside.

PRIDE was purchased. The IFL, EliteXC and Affliction all went belly up.

And though Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker has always insisted his
organization has learned from the mistakes of those that came before
him, UFC president Dana White on Sunday said it won't matter.
Strikeforce - and more importantly, Showtime - are in White's sights,
and he plans on taking them down.

BROOMFIELD, Colo. - While the UFC will remain firmly in the MMA
spotlight for the next 10 days with two more shows on the horizon, that
focus will briefly shift in April for Strikeforce's second-ever
CBS-broadcast event.

Headlining the April 17 "Strikeforce: Nashville" card is Strikeforce
middleweight champ Jake Shields as he meets former UFC star Dan
Henderson.

Following Sunday night's post-UFC on Versus 1 press conference, UFC
president Dana White said he's not very fond of the matchup, but he is
keeping an eye on Shields.

BROOMFIELD, Colo. - While the UFC put on another entertaining card on
Sunday night with UFC on Versus 1, one of the most-discussed stories of
the past week has been the potential involvement of Rich Franklin in the
upcoming season of "The Ultimate Fighter 11."

While UFC president Dana White went out of his way to squash initial
reports of an issue with Tito Ortiz during the show's now-complete
filming, on Sunday night he softened his stance just a bit.

While White refused to address the situation head-on, he did suggest there may be more to the story than
he's willing to divulge.
