Bean said Ludwig suffered a Maisonneuve fracture – a “spiral” fracture of the fibula bone often accompanied by a severe ankle sprain – to his left leg. Ludwig will undergo surgery on Friday to repair the damage and will have several pins inserted in the bones to stabilize them.

Both men fought on the preliminary card for the UFC’s first ever broadcast on Versus at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colo. Ludwig suffered the injury in the first round after a takedown by Elkins.
