Joe Mazza (165) and Jason Manenkoff (165 converted track and field sprinter) will be competing this weekend at the IPA Strength Spectacular. Featured events include the IPA World Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships, as well as the NAS national qualifier "Cradle of Iron" strongman show. Mazza will be trying to beat Rick Weil's all time raw bench press record of 485 pounds at 165. Below is video training footage of Manenkoff touch-and-go bench pressing 400 pounds at a body weight of 167 pounds.

At the USAPL Pennyslvania Bench Press and Deadlift Championships yesterday, John Bogart (275) broke the federation's single lift American record with 716 pounds. The previous record was held by Scott Lade at 710 pounds. Bogart now owns both the USAPL full power American bench press record and the single lift American bench press record. His next meet will be on June 5th at the USAPL Orange County PL Championships and Ironman BP in Pine Bush, NY; and then he will be competing in the USAPL full power men's nationals in Palm Springs June 20th. He will be going for Viktor Testov's recent IPF full power bench record of 722.

Joe Mazza Benches 460 raw at 165; Eyes Weil

As reported by Jim Parrish, Joe Mazza competed in the I.P.A. South Jersey Rumble on Saturday. Joe weighed in at 165 and competed raw. He opened with 430, went 460 on his second; and then missed 487.5 on his third. Mazza's 487.5 attempt would have broken Rick Weil's all time raw single lift American bench press record of 485 that he set in the USPF in 1984.

Says Cohn:

Howard Sturman just set a 181 master's 3 raw bench record of 336. Niko Hulslander and John Bogart are up in about 30 minutes.

John Bogart (275) has just hit a new USAPL AMERICAN bench press record with a 716 pound press. He is going 750 next.

11 Year Old Maryana Naumova posts Unofficial Russian National raw Bench-Press Record

On April 24, 2010, 11-year old Maryana Naumova (44K/97lbs) posted an unofficial Russian national raw bench press record of 107 pounds for the teenage 13-17 age division. She took a fourth attempt at 110 pounds, but was not successful.

Yesterday at the APA Delaware Power Classic, 23 year old junior Vince Mallace (275) set a new APA American and World raw bench press record by hitting 480 pounds on his second attempt. The previous record was held by Maurice Washington at 475 pounds. Mallace then missed a 495 pound third attempt.

Mallace also holds the raw USAPL Pennsylvania state record in the 242 class with a 457 pound bench press.

Viktor Testsov of the Ukraine Sets IPF World Record Bench and Almost Total

Twenty-one year old Ukrainian Viktor Testsov (275) has just set new men’s IPF Junior and Open 3 lift World Record on the bench press with 722 pounds at the IPF European Championships in Sweden today. The previous men's open 3 lift IPF bench press record was Norway's Roy Holte at 718 pounds. The previous open 3 lift IPF junior bench press record was Ukraine's Yevgen Yarymbash at 716 pounds.

Testsov also squatted 898 and deadlifted 766 for a 2,386 pound total. He made a run at a 793 pound deadlift on his 3rd attempt to break Yarymbash's IPF Junior and Open World Record total. The lift would have given him both records with a 2,413 pound total.

Jim Brown (M1a-198) set a new American squat record yesterday at the USAPL Masters Nationals in Killeen, Texas. Brown surpassed Craig Terry's previous record of 683 with his second attempt of 690. He then went 705 on his third to extend his record. This record adds to his American bench press record of 490 set in 2008.

John Bogart Moving Up A Weight Class

John Bogart (shw) has decided to move up a weight class for the USAPL Pennsylvania State BP/DL Championships on May 15 in Brogue, Pennsylvania.

In training leading up to the meet, Bogart handles 785 pounds full range and 805 off of various boards. To put this into perspective, the IPF single lift bench press record is Daisuke Midote's 793 pounds. The USAPL American single lift record is Jeff Lewis's 777.
