October 15 – 17 in California: US Open XV Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship

The tournament will take place October 15, 16, & 17, 2010 at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium in Santa Cruz, CA. All schools are welcome to participate in this highly lauded and exciting event, taking place in the beautiful seaside city of Santa Cruz, in northern California, approximately 80 miles south of San Francisco. All belt levels in the Junior, Adult, Master, and Senior age categories will compete. Sorry, but there will be no kids divisions at this tournament.

The fee for early registration, i.e., received by 11:59pm PST Thursday October 1st, is $75.00. The fee for late registration (received by Oct. 7th 11:59pm PST) will be $90.00. Registration after October 9th, 2010 will be $99.00.

We will award medals and certificates for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each division, and every registered competitor will receive a complimentary tournament t-shirt, as well as half off of our featured Rules and Referees Seminar with Professor Alvaro Mansor.

May 1 & 2 in California: 3rd American Cup BJJ Tournament

The creators of the US Open, Claudio Franca Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, are honored to announce the 3rd American Cup Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament.

On Saturday, May 1, 2010 the first day of the tournament, is exclusively for kids year born 1995 – 2006 and purple belt ranks of all weights. The cost for kids early registration until Thursday April 22nd is $50.00. From April 23-26, 2010, registration changes to $65.00.

On Sunday May 2, 2010 the second day of the tournament, will be for competitors in the Juvenile, Adult, Master, Senior I, Senior II and Female Age Divisions of white, blue, brown, and black belt rankings. The cost of early registration for Juveniles, Adults, Masters, Seniors and Females until Thursday April 22nd is $65.00. From April 23 – 26, 2010, registration changes to $80.00.

With the 2010 Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship coming up this weekend I thought it would be a good time to post a list of the different weight classes as listed by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. Of course you are weighed while wearing the gi, so make sure you take that into account.

ADULT, MASTER, & SENIOR

Galo = Rooster 126.5 lbs (57,50 kg)

Pluma = Light Feather 141.0 lbs (64,00 kg)

Pena = Feather 154.0 lbs (70,00 kg)

Leve = Light 167.5 lbs (76,00 kg)

Medio = Middle 181.0 lbs (82,30 kg)

Meio-Pesado = Medium Heavy 194.5 lbs (88,30 kg)

Pesado = Heavy 207.5 lbs (94,30 kg)

Super-Pesado = Super Heavy 221.0 lbs (100,50 kg)

Pesadissimo = Ultra Heavy Over 221.0 lbs (Over 100,50 kg)

FEMALE

Pluma = Light Feather 118.0 lbs (53,50 kg)

Pena = Feather 129.0 lbs (58,50 kg)

Leve = Light 141.0 lbs (64,00 kg)
