February 12 in California: BJJ Bay Area Open 2

January 30th, 2011 | Author: iCompete
This article was originally published at iCompete. Copyright: iCompete.

The Pan-Am Championships are just around the corner and competition experience is just as important as practice. It’s time to compete against the best in the nation. The Bay Area Open aims to be a low-cost tournament for Northern California jiu-jitsu fighters that will provide valuable mat time which can greatly increase your chances of success at the next level.

This is the second BJJ gi and no-gi tournament we are hosting. The proceeds for this tournament will be donated to the Berkeley High School wrestling team. Organizing this event in the past allowed my wrestlers to compete in wrestling tournaments they wouldn’t have otherwise been able to afford. The northern California BJJ community was very helpful and generous in supporting our team.

As with many high school programs today, our team is severely underfunded. The wrestling program is in dire need of funds for tournament registration fees as well as new wrestling mats. The high school refuses to provide me with this funding and we as a team have therefore been doing our best to take matters into our own hands. Please support Berkeley High School wrestling!
